To estimate the cost of a steel industrial warehouse, logistics building or institutional project in Colombia, first define what is being commissioned. A structural supply quotation and a complete construction quotation cover different items. This guide explains what information to gather and what to check before comparing proposals.
PEB Corp provides structural engineering and BIM design for Colombia. NewCon Steel® supplies cold-formed steel and SmartBrix Construction executes construction. Each company's scope should be identified in the quotation.
What the budget should include

There are no universal percentage allocations for these items. Their distribution changes with soil, geometry, use and building services. For education, healthcare and housing, request a proposal with quantities and specifications.
How location and NSR-10 affect the proposal
Design is reviewed against NSR-10, Colombia's seismic-resistant building code, and applicable amendments. The review considers municipality and site, soil profile, applicable local microzonation, use, height and structural system. The analysis method and energy-dissipation capacity are determined for the project; they are not automatically assigned to an entire city.
Decree 1711 of 2021 partially amends NSR-10 and incorporates provisions for systems with cold-formed sheet-steel profiles. Engineering checks the scope and limitations applicable to the proposed system. A BIM model helps coordinate information but does not replace structural calculations.
Logistics are quoted through to the site. Compare the route, cargo volume, access, storage and erection requirements. Proximity to a port alone does not establish that a complete building will cost less.
Information for a comparable quotation
- State the municipality, site location, intended use and approximate area.
- Share drawings, clear height, spans, levels and equipment or storage loads.
- Attach the geotechnical study and available permit and utility information.
- Define whether you need engineering, structural supply or complete construction.
- Request written inclusions, exclusions, schedule and commercial terms.

Frequently asked questions about costs in Colombia
Is there a price per m² that applies throughout Colombia?
No. PEB Corp quotes according to location, design and scope. Published Panama reference ranges are not prices for Colombia.
Can I commission structural design only?
Yes. Structural engineering and BIM design can be commissioned from PEB Corp as a separate discipline. The proposal defines deliverables and responsibilities.
Does a BIM model include all the documentation needed for construction?
The level of development and deliverables should be defined in the contract. Check drawings, calculations, connections, coordination and fabrication and erection responsibilities; the existence of a model alone does not establish that the documentation is complete.
